Community Spotlight

Dear CEOS Community,

April 2026 marked the fifth anniversary of the Earth Observation Training, Education, and Capacity Development Network (EOTEC DevNet) - a vibrant global community of over 2,300 professionals spanning more than 120 countries launched in 2021 under WGCapD.

To mark this milestone and address the changing landscape of our field, WGCapD and EOTEC DevNet recently co-hosted a joint webinar titled Decision-Maker Perspectives on the Evolving Demand for EO Capacity Building. The over 100 participants from government, the private sector, and capacity development organisations explored how the rapid expansion of EO user communities and the rise of artificial intelligence are fundamentally shifting how capacity building must be delivered. A key takeaway from the webinar was that the audience for EO training is expanding far beyond traditional remote sensing specialists, with operational decision-makers increasingly looking for practical, application-focused learning pathways tailored to their specific roles.

WGCapD’s other accomplishments are also featured in the CEOS Newsletter article below - where Dan Matsapola from SANSA reflects on his three years of service leading CEOS WGCapD. Furthermore, you can also explore future learning opportunities in the CEOS Training Calendar - all upcoming events are listed below.

Warmest regards,

Yasha Moz
